John’s Note: Hank Parker, former Bassmasters Classic Champion, and his two sons, Hank Jr. and Billy, produce the TV shows, “Hank Parker 3D” and “Hank Parker’s Outdoor Magazine” on the Pursuit Channel and “Hank Parker’s Flesh and Blood” on the Outdoor Channel. They use deer lure to get more bucks within bow range. When we asked Hank, “What are some of the trends you’ve seen in the deer lure business in the last few years?” we were surprised by what we learned. Deer lure can be an effective tool to allow bowhunters to put bucks in front of their bows. But if deer lure is used incorrectly, it rarely if ever works. Hank is the president of C’Mere Deer (www.cmeredeer.com). If you’ve wondered about how to use deer lure effectively, stay with us this week, and Hank will tell us how.

Hank Parker on Two Ways to Use Deer Lure - Correctly and Incorrectly - 2A friend of mine, who has twin boys, has 200 acres of land, divided in half by a road. One of his sons hunts the 100 acres on the left side of the road, and the other son hunts the 100 acres on the right side of the road. One year both of the boys went to their favorite sporting-goods store and bought the exact same products – C’Mere Deer Liquid and C’Mere Deer Powder.

The brother hunting the left side of the 100 acres sprayed the liquid C’Mere Deer on honeysuckle and persimmon trees and around acorn trees where deer were feeding. He put up trail cameras on each site that he had sprayed with C’Mere Deer. The brother on the right side of the road found a well-traveled deer trail. He poured C’Mere Deer right in the middle of the deer trail and put up a trail camera. A week later both boys checked their trail cameras. The brother who had put out the liquid C’Mere Deer had 200 pictures of deer. Next, he put out C’Mere Deer Powder and kicked leaves over the powder, so the deer couldn’t see it, requiring the deer to find the C’Mere Deer powder with their noses not their eyes. The brother on the right side of the road checked his camera. The C’Mere Deer that he put in the middle of the deer trail was still there. He checked his trail camera, and he had a picture of one raccoon.

When they got back to the house, the brother who had piled the C’Mere Deer up in the middle of the deer trail told his brother, “I didn’t have any results with that C’Mere Deer.” The brother who had put out the C’Mere Deer on the left side of the road said, “I put out C’Mere Deer Liquid, and I got 200 pictures of deer. I think the liquid is pretty potent.” So, the brother on the right side of the road poured C’Mere Deer Liquid right beside the C’Mere Deer Powder that the deer hadn’t touched in a week. The next week, theHank Parker on Two Ways to Use Deer Lure - Correctly and Incorrectly - 1 brothers checked their trail cameras. The brother on the left side of the road came back with over 300 deer pictures, including pictures of two of the biggest bucks he ever had seen in his life. The brother hunting on the right side of the road brought in his trail camera but again didn’t have any deer pictures.

This is a true story that illustrates my point. If you use deer attractants the wrong way, they won’t work. But if you use them the right way, you can get phenomenal success. The brother who put the C’Mere Deer on the left side of the road was really pumped and excited about all the deer he was seeing on his trail camera. The brother on the right side of the road said that C’Mere Deer didn’t work. The brothers went back to the sporting-goods store to get more hunting supplies and were talking to a fellow who was considering buying some C’Mere Deer. The brother hunting the right side of the road said, “Don’t buy that stuff. I’ve tried it, and it doesn’t work.” The other brother just laughed and walked out the door.

I think this illustration points out the truth about deer lure. You can make any hunting aid a non-performer, ifHank Parker on Two Ways to Use Deer Lure - Correctly and Incorrectly - 3 you use it the wrong way. NEVER put deer attractant in a trail that the deer are using! Always put deer attractant in a feeding area.
